dcsimg Chlorinated Rubber

Heavy-duty corrosion protection

Powdered chlorinated polymers for corrosion and antifouling protection

Powdered chlorinated polymers from Covestro are produced from polyisoprene and polybutadiene in varying molecular weights. This yields chlorinated rubber (CR) coatings with different viscosities. Chlorinated rubber is preferred when heavy-duty corrosion and antifouling protection are required.

Our Pergut® chlorinated rubber is supplied as a white powder and has a density of approximately 1.6 g/cm3. The molecular weight – and consequently viscosity – of individual grades varies.

Chlorinated rubber used in coating technologies have many benefits, including:

  • Easy processing and application (one-component systems)
  • Fast drying
  • Good adhesion to metals (steel, iron, zinc)
  • High resistance to corrosion, water, chemicals and salts
  • Resistant to weather and other environmental influences
  • Antifouling properties, including resistance to mold and fungus
  • Use in the primers, intermediate coats and topcoats of protective coating systems
  • Excellent repaintabiltiy, even after many years

Our proprietary manufacturing process helps Pergut® chlorinated rubber products have extremely low carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) content – < 0.005 % by weight (< 50 ppm) – and comply with global regulatory requirements.
