Flooring can affect a facility’s operation. High-quality flooring is needed for the full functionality of production and storage facilities, public buildings (hospital, schools and railway stations), commercial buildings, sports arenas, parking decks and more. With their high-performance properties, polyurethanes (PU) are the building blocks of choice for floor coatings.
The main purpose of flooring is to support and distribute loads. The wear layer, often a floor coating, is rigidly bonded to the load-bearing layer and provides protection against chemicals and other potentially harmful elements.
Polyurethanes have been used as floor coatings for more than 40 years and are recognized worldwide for their long-term protection and high-quality appearance. They can be formulated to be highly elastic for use as membranes or hard and highly resistant to chemicals.
Newer polyaspartic floor coatings are often preferred in concrete floor coating applications. They offer low volatile organic compound (VOC) contents, rapid curing without sacrificing durability and are workable in low temperatures.
In fact, depending on the particular floor application, PU floor coating systems can be customized to provide:
