Functional coatings based on PUDs provide temporary protection
Furniture, automobiles and electronic devices, including smartphones and tablets, often require protection for their sensitive surfaces and finishes during production and transport.
Covestro has developed a cutting-edge, peelable coating solution based on polyurethane dispersions (PUD) to give substrates temporary protection.
These temporary functional coatings are based on Covestro’s polyurethane dispersions from its Bayhydrol® PUD product line. There are two primary ways to formulate peelable coatings: as a waterborne one-component (1K) coating based on Bayhydrol® UH PUDs or a UV-curable system based on Bayhydrol® UV PUDs.
Peelable coatings provide temporary protection from chemical and mechanical damage, dust, fingerprints or stains. They also offer high efficiency, low environmental impact, heat stability, toughness and flexibility.
The temporary display coatings are easy to apply and can be sprayed on. This lends itself to use on small or complex three-dimensional objects. The temporary functional coating peels off in one piece, leaving no residue, and works well on all common substrates, including plastic, leather, metal and glass – even when these are coated.
