UV-cure coating systems is one of the fastest growing segments in the coatings industry, especially for industrial applications where fast processing of coated parts is essential for high productivity. In the curing process, UV light or electron beam energy induces a radical reaction and facilitates polymerization in a coating or adhesive, taking only fractions of a second. UV-cure coatings are the preferred solution for increasing efficiency when cost control and high quality are essential.
Bayer’s UV waterborne technology requires low-to-no solvents. These coatings emit fewer volatile organic compounds (VOC) and offer comparable properties to solventborne PU coatings. UV waterborne coatings can be applied with current application equipment typically used for conventional coatings. This has contributed to the systems’ strong growth in the marketplace.
