High performance without solvents
Get sustainable satisfaction with 1K and 2K PU dispersions
Consumer and manufacturer preferences as well as changing regulations are creating a shift in the makeup and production of polyurethane (PU) dispersions. Covestro is answering the call for high-performing raw materials widely without cosolvents with a variety of PU dispersions for waterborne PU coatings.
Bayhydrol® polyurethane (PU) dispersions are suitable for use in developing one- (1K) or two-component (2K) waterborne PU coatings.
Without an external crosslinker, Bayhydrol® UH high molecular waterborne PU dispersions are utilized to create high-quality 1K films. Optionally adding in a Bayhydur® polyisocyanate crosslinker results in a 2K waterborne coating with enhanced mechanical and chemical resistance.
Bayhydrol® U polyurethane dispersions contain hydroxyl groups that can be crosslinked with polyisocyanates. This results in real 2K PU coatings that exhibit a property profile comparable to solvent-based coatings.
The Bayhydrol® line of polyurethane dispersions includes many nonsolvent formulations. Solvents are still used in some paint formulations to support film-building properties. However, the total solvent content of a formulation based on Bayhydrol® U or UH made by our process technology is substantially lower in many cases than conventionally developed water-based formulations.
