High quality, environmentally friendly and durable
Dispersion choice impacts coating’s property profile
For environmentally friendly, high-quality systems, like those used in glass coatings or industrial coating applications, Covestro offers a wide range of waterborne dispersions based on polyurethanes (PU), polyacrylates (PAC), polyesters (PES) or corresponding hybrids.
Covestro’s dispersion product line includes:
- Bayhydrol® U hydroxyl-functional PU dispersions
- Bayhydrol® A hydroxy-functional PAC dispersions
Combined with our Bayhydur® BL crosslinkers these dispersions are suitable for developing one-component (1K) (stoving) waterborne polyurethane coatings, and when combined with our standard Bayhydur® polyisocyanates , for forming two-component (2K) waterborne PU coatings. Our waterborne 1K and 2K PU raw materials are technically equivalent to solventborne systems – and in some cases even better.
Bayhydrol® U polyurethane dispersions impart excellent physical properties like stone chip and scratch resistance, and self-healing effects. They can exhibit a property profile comparable to solvent-based coatings. With some properties they even show a superior performance.
Coating films based on Bayhydrol® A PAC dispersions combine excellent chemical and weather resistance with good film appearance. This results in resistant coatings suitable for industrial wood and metal finishes. Drying conditions and hardness may be adjusted within a broad range of tolerance.
By selecting from our wide range of waterborne dispersions, formulators are able to tailor the properties of the final coatings to meet specific requirements of the application.
